No chance on erosion, concludes T&H…….. scientific reports show differently.
Erosion, e.g. water erosion caused by heavy rains, removes the nutrient-rich topsoil from the one area and transports it to another, on Bonaire this is usually the ocean. It then damages the fragile coral reefs.
Erosion is most effectively stopped by vegetation. The root systems of plants and trees not only slow down the water flow, but also create small openings for the water to actually drain in the soil. Even a blade of grass helps to prevent erosion.
Help us to protect and preserve Plantation Bolivia, the last wilderness of the island, 3.000 hectares, tropical dry forest, only corridor between the Northern and Southern halves of the island, habitat of numerous endemic species, adjacent a pristine coral reef. Now on the brink of destruction by development!
